VOTE - Suzette Moore & Rachel Moorhouse - LIBRARY TRUSTEES

Meet Suzette Moore

Suzette is 51 and married to Carter. They have six children, with the youngest graduating high school this year. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and Mathematics, with a minor in PE and coaching in 1996. Just recently, she refreshed her math skills by taking two math courses, trigonometry and calculus. She has been a substitute math teacher in the West Ada School District for the past ten years, including a number of long-term assignments at Centennial, Eagle, Mountain View, as well as Lake Hazel Middle School. She has tutored many adults and youth in math her entire adult life, free of charge.

When the Moore family moved to their present home in 2001, they used the Victory Branch library, as the Lake Hazel Branch library hadn’t been constructed yet. Their family checked out books, used audio books, and checked out an occasional movie. They loved the summer reading programs and the children enjoyed the classes they participated in.

Suzette is a huge supporter of public libraries. She remembers going to libraries all the time as a child and loved the fact that she could pick any book she wanted, and it was her possession for a time. She loved it when the “Bookmobile” would come to her school. As a mom, with many children in the home, libraries were a lifesaver. Being able to keep books and other education materials in the home without spending too much money kept the family going to the library on a regular basis. Over time, with new technology, she thinks it has been fascinating to see how libraries have adapted to still meet the needs of the community. She loves the STEM program the library offers and has worked as a volunteer for some of their outreach programs several times.

She has enjoyed engaging in numerous community activities, especially in the education environment. She coached a 4th grade Idaho History Bee Team for 4 years, and taught Algebra Club during lunch recess for the 5th graders. She has been a Boy Scout leader, but when merit badge camps were cancelled during the pandemic, she organized them on her own. Another troop learned about it and joined and the boys were able to continue their advancements. She has also worked with the youth helping with Lego Robotics teams. She has helped coach sports, and ran the concessions for the Mountain View High School boys’ soccer team for four years. She participates in making items for humanitarian efforts that assist refugees and others.

She believes a library trustee should be a person who cares about the community, because libraries are essentially community centers. She believes in listening to patrons, staff, and library leadership colleagues. She wants the Ada Community Library to continue to be open, helpful, and exciting in its services and programs. Suzette is open-minded and is willing to listen to all sides of an issue before making an informed decision. She understands the importance of being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars and is willing and able to devote her best efforts to maintain the high levels of library services currently provided by Ada Community Library.
