Addition of Library Branches
In 2001, space in an office building in the heart of Star was leased and finished into a library branch, and has served the population of Star and the surrounding area ever since.
As Hidden Springs and other nearby developments in North County grew, a library space in the Hidden Springs Merc Building was constructed and began serving library patrons in that area. Last year, the Board of Trustees decided to increase the size of that branch by expanding the footprint of the library into an adjacent space which had recently been vacated. That expanded library branch was just completed earlier this year and is now being enjoyed by the residents of North County.
And finally, in the largest growth area of the district, South County, a second library branch was constructed in 2012 in a space previously used as a bowling alley next to an Albertsons store at the southeast corner of Lake Hazel/Five Mile Roads south of Boise. South County residents are now served by the main Victory Branch Library constructed after the bond election in 1984, as well as the Lake Hazel Branch Library.
So, presently, the Ada County Free Library District manages four branch libraries: one in Star; one in North County; and two in South County.
A few years ago, the Board of Trustees approved and organized a mobile “library branch” in order to extend library services beyond the four physical locations. It was named “Connect Branch.” Two vans were purchased and outfitted into mobile libraries that go to schools, parks, playgrounds, outdoor community activities, and other locations, allowing more library district patrons to access library services more conveniently.
